Travel Vaccinations
1 User Online

No vaccine is a 100% effective in everyone.

Vaccinations do offer some protection, but need to be used in combination with precautions to avoid exposure to the disease e.g. effective hand washing (see Staying Healthy Whilst Abroad).

We offer free travel health advice which includes a discussion about which vaccinations are currently recommended for travel to your destination, via our travel clinic.

Charges

Some vaccinations are available for free on the NHS.

Other vaccinations are not available on the NHS, even if recommended for travel to a certain area.  We may be able to provide these vaccinations but the patient will be charged for them.  Find out more about charges.

The NHS policy on vaccination and the charge for vaccinations change from time to time.  The following information is meant as a guide only.

Availability

  • The Health Centre stocks supplies of many travel vaccinations, but not all
  • Some vaccinations may only be available on prescription from the pharmacy.  In these cases the patient will be given a prescription (NHS or private, as appropriate) and asked to collect the vaccination

The patient will be given an appointment for the administration of the vaccination by a trained nurse. Hence some vaccinations may not be given on the day of your Travel Clinic appointment

Please note that if a vaccination needs to be kept refridgerated it must be kept in a calibrated medical refridgerator i.e. at the Health Centre, NOT in a domestic refridgerator. We will not administer a vaccination which may have been stored inappropriately
  • The Health Centre cannot accept responsibility for the local availability of vaccinations, but would be happy to give advice on where they may be obtained
