Travel Introduction
1 User Online

The health risks of travel are preventable, yet more than 50% of all travellers abroad experience health problems that interfere with the enjoyment or success of the trip.

Imperial College Health Centre offers a comprehensive travel health service. We believe that the best protection and advice should be tailored to your exact needs and that staying healthy abroad involves much more than simply having the appropriate vaccinations.

Naturally we also offer a comprehensive travel immunisation service and provide antimalarial preventative treatments. Imperial College Health Centre is also a registered Yellow Fever Centre.

These pages are intended to provide guidance for planning foreign travel, from a health perspective. They are more relevant to students taking extended travel breaks and going to remote areas than to those taking package holidays, but are a useful guide for any prospective traveller.

Medical Electives and Travel for College Courses/Employment

The University Occupational Health Department provides a comprehensive service for students and staff travelling abroad directly for the purposes of a College course or College employment. It does not however provide a service for expeditions i.e. optional trips abroad in or out of term, nor summer placements.

The University Occupational Health Service therefore provides for all aspects of travel medicine pertaining to medical electives including travel advice, vaccinations, malaria prophylaxis, emergency treatments, equipment etc. Hence any enquiry pertaining to medical electives should be addressed to the Occupational Health Department who will be happy to help you.

We regret that Imperial College Health Centre cannot duplicate these resources. Students and staff who mistakenly attempt to use our services for these purposes will be directed towards occupational health, even if in so doing a delay is incurred. Medical Students should please take note of this. We would be happy to direct you towards the appropriate resource if you are in doubt of which to use.
