Contraception and Cervical Smears

All the Doctors give general contraceptive advice and prescribe oral contraception.

Dr Weinreb fits diaphragms and coils (IUD/IUS).  If you are considering either of these options, please book a routine appontment with the relevant doctor to discuss further.

The Practice Nurses also offer general contraceptive advice (including contraceptive pill prescriptions) and cervical smears.

Condoms are available free of charge from reception. Simply fill in a request slip. They are also available free from Community Family Planning Clinics and Sexual Health Clinics

 

NHS Cervical Smear Screening Programme  

 

 

It is recommended that you have a cervical smear if you have ever been sexually active - starting at 25 years - every 3 years, between 25 and 49 years and every 5 years if between 50 and 64 years. Screening routinely ceases at 65 years.

 


 

HPV - Human Papillomavirus

 

 

 

The HPV vaccination that protects against cervical cancer was introduced for girls aged 12 – 13 years old in September 2008. This was a school based vaccination. A catch-up program for girls up to the age of 18 is also underway. If you where born between 1 September 1990 – 31 August 1993 you are entitled to receive a HPV vaccine program at Imperial College Health Centre.

 

If you are not interested in having these vaccinations please download and complete the form and email to healthcentre@imperial.ac.uk.

 

If you have not yet completed your HPV course, please download the form and contact reception to book an appointment with one of the nurses. (Bring the completed form on the day of your appointment.)

 

If you have completed your HPV course, please download the form and email it to healthcentre@imperial.ac.uk.

 

If you have not started your HPV course, please contact reception to book an appointment with a nurse as soon as possible.

 

HPV Schedule for girls born between 1 September 1990 to 31 August 1993

 

1st Dose – 0 Months

2nd Dose – 1-2 Months (there must be a minimum interval of one month from first dose)

3rd Dose – 6 Months (there must be a minimum interval of six months from the first dose)

 

All three doses should be administered within 12 Months
