Q&A  
  • Q : Is there a risk of Avian (bird) flu at the moment? A: currently there have been no cases of avian (bird) 'flu in humans the UK. Therefore there is no vaccination for this. The standard 'flu vaccine does not prevent avian 'flu. In the unlikely event of an outbreak, different treatment would be made available.  
  • Q : Are you open at the weekend? A: Unfortunately we are not open at weekends. In an emergency please refer to the “emergency/out of hours” section of this website.
  • Q: Are pregnancy tests available at the Health Centre A: We perform pregnancy tests when they are clinically indicated eg when there is a suspicion of a clinical problem in early pregnancy. We cannot offer routine pregnancy tests as these can be bought from any chemist.
  • Q: Why do we need to fill in a form to get condoms? A: In order to provide this free service, we need to keep records of what has been requested and what has been issued.
  • Q: When can I speak to a doctor or nurse for advice? A: The doctors and nurses are available to take telephone calls throughout the day. If the clinician is not available you be offered the chance to speak to the duty doctor (for emergencies only) or a message will be taken. The clinician will return your non emergency call within 48 hours.
    In general 11.30am to 12.30pm is a good time to phone.
